Entre Bastidores: El Proceso

Xa’anil Naj’ob consist of walls built of barro, red earth covering vertical sticks. And the roofs are made of a wood structure covered with huano palm leaves.

While the roof needs to be renewed regularly, especially during years of big storms and heavy rainfall, the base and walls of the Mayan house are as solid as any house on Earth.

A traditional roof constructed of huano palm leaves will deteriorate in less than 10 years if unattended. But if they are properly maintained, changing the leaves as regularly as necessary, these traditional roofs will last indefinitely!
